My Polish Valentine

The past few days have been nice and calm. Thursday we took our polish language exam and all did well. I forgot the word for pear. It's gruszka. Pani Anna was very proud of us and I hope we'll see her again while we're in Kraków. Friday was a shortened class, we went over our exam and received our diplomas. On our walk to class we stopped at the market to buy Pani Anna a bouquet of pink tulips, something small to show our appreciation for her.

Valentines Day isn't nearly as popular in Poland as it is in the US but husbands and boyfriends were still at the flower markets buying roses and bouquets. Scott got me a large long stem red rose. It was the biggest rose I had ever seen, at least twice the size of the roses in the states. I hung it upside down in the room to dry. Sadly I only got to enjoy it for a day because we're leaving for our holiday soon. Valentines Day was wonderful and I'm so thankful I could skype with my grandparents for a little bit. It made me so incredibly happy to see the and hear from them. Hopefully they will be able to skype me more and I'll be able to tell them about my travels personally instead of just through letters and this blog. I know they will love to hear about my trip to Budapest and Vienna.

Darcy, Sam, and Zach made it to Budapest safely this morning. I'm sure they had a great time exploring today, I'm so excited to join them tomorrow. Our train leaves in two hours but we're leaving for the station around nine just to make sure we have plenty of time. I have never traveled such a long distance by train before, let alone an over night trip with sleeper cars, so this will definitely be an adventure. I'll take many pictures of my travels and do as best I can to write about them all. I'm unsure of whether or not I'll have wifi in the hostel but I'll post again whenever I have the chance.

Best wishes from Poland and happy late Valentines Day

With love, Claire

  1. Poppi and I drank coffee and chatted this morning instead of working on the farm. There's still too much snow on the ground to move around safely. He SO enjoyed skyping and said several times how wonderful it was to see you. He's very proud of the woman you are. I took it as how great of a father I am.
